2021 AZA Award Winner: Docent-Led Virtual Field Trips for Schools

Thank you to all of the teachers and students who continue to make our Virtual Field Trip Program such a popular success!

Thank you for your interest in virtually visiting the Los Angeles Zoo with your school group! Please read the following information before reserving your docent-led program.

Program Information

Our Virtual School Programs bring the Zoo to your (virtual) classroom! Choose one of our programs designed to foster your students’ skills as scientists with the people and animals that can only be found at the L.A. Zoo.

Virtual Field Trip

Recommended for Kindergarten-2nd Grade and Special Needs classes.

The L.A. Zoo is an amazing place to experience nature. Join us on a virtual trip through the zoo as our docents guide your class through this program.

Animal Adaptations

Recommended for 2nd-5th Grade.

In this program, our docents will help your students explore habitats from around the world and meet some of the amazing animals that call the Zoo home. You will hear from our zookeepers and see some incredible animal adaptations up close!

Peninsular Pronghorn Program

Recommended for 6th-8th Grade.

In this program, participants will learn all about the endangered Peninsular Pronghorn and the conservation efforts the Los Angeles Zoo is taking to help preserve this species. Participants will practice being a scientist as they conduct their own study to understand pronghorn behavior.

Virtual Field Trip Registration Information

Due to the high demand, we can only accommodate the schools in the Greater Los Angeles area. If our schedule allows, we will consider schools outside the area.

Our docent guides will join your virtual classroom to facilitate one of our existing programs.  A limited number of docent-led programs are available. There is no fee for a docent-guided program, but you must book your program at least two weeks in advance. Do not assume you have a guided program booked until you have received a confirmation email from the Los Angeles Zoo. You must provide your virtual login information and on the day of your program, docents will join your class.
