Baby Boom! Orangutan Born!

L.A. Zoo staff, volunteers, and guests are beaming with joy over the arrival of a new baby boy Bornean orangutan, which can be seen now at the Red Ape Rain Forest.

Welcome! Two Baby Girls Join the Chimpanzee Troop!

The Los Angeles Zoo is buzzing with excitement as two new female chimpanzees join the troop. These are the first chimpanzees born at the L.A. Zoo in 11 years (2014).

The Harrowing Journey of a California Condor and the Veterinary Team Who Helped Save Her Life


Female California condor #939 was hatched at the Los Angeles Zoo in 2018 at the California Condor Recovery Facility and was successfully released to the wild. Years later she returned to the Zoo in desperate need of treatment for a severe case of lead poisoning from ingesting lead ammunition.
