Funds to Support Global Conservation Initiatives and Other Meaningful Programs at the Los Angeles Zoo
The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), the Los Angeles Zoo’s nonprofit partner, announces its fitness fundraiser, Walk for the Wild presented by Skechers, raised $261,582, surpassing the event’s fundraising goal by $36,582. These critical funds will go to support the Los Angeles Zoo and GLAZA’s shared commitment to preserving and protecting wild species and their habitats for future generations, and creating a space for meaningful, direct connections to nature through exploration, discovery, and education.
“While the recent severe winter storm impacted our ability to host the Walk this past Saturday, we are so grateful for the hundreds of dedicated and hard-working supporters who far exceeded our fundraising goal in support of the Zoo and GLAZA’s mission,” states Tom Jacobson, president of GLAZA. “It’s important that we continue to harness the passion and commitment of the public as we face accelerating habitat loss and species declines,” he goes on to say. “Together, we must continue to raise awareness and funds for these pressing issues.”
Walk for the Wild presented by Skechers invited the public to register for this first-of-its-kind fundraising event at the Zoo and form teams or participate as individuals, with awards and Skechers prize packages going to the top fundraisers. The team winner was “Dazzlingly Dedicated Docents & Specialists,” made up of GLAZA docents and volunteers and their friends and family, who collectively raised $20,269. The top individual winner raised an impressive $4,180. The Walk was cancelled due to severe weather and will not be rescheduled.
Event partners include presenting sponsor Skechers; associate sponsors California Credit Union, and Kennedy Wilson; and contributing partners Pepsi, Don Francisco’s Coffee, and GoGo squeeZ.
