Los Angeles, CA (Apr. 26, 2024)—The Los Angeles Zoo is excited to announce its first-ever Día de los Niños (Children’s Day) celebration on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm. This vibrant celebration of children will include bilingual programming in English and Spanish, including storytelling, dance performances, education stations, animal feedings, craft stations, and more. All programming is free with paid daytime admission and for Zoo members.
The event will feature a wide range of activities and entertainment for children and families, including twice daily animal enrichment presentations, craft stations, bilingual storytelling sessions in Spanish and English, art demonstrations, and dance performances. Guests can enjoy making monarch butterfly slap bracelets and axolotl artwork at special craft stations; bilingual story readings by LAUSD’s North Hollywood High School Zoo Magnet Spanish Club Students and Los Angeles Public Library Children’s Librarians; live poster printing of a custom design by Self Help Graphics, where guests can bring their own T-shirts for screen-printing, too; and captivating dance performances by Danza Azteca Xinantecatl, performing Aztec dances, and Plaza de la Raza School of Performing & Visual Arts Youth Folklorico Ensemble, a youth dance group dedicated to the exploration and preservation of Mexican folkloric dance traditions. In addition, the education stations will provide interactive and educational experiences for children, including the Plushie Clinic where kids can get an imaginary veterinary check for their favorite stuffed animals, and the Zoo Babies station where they can learn about the fascinating journey from “wildhood” to adulthood in the animal world. Lastly, step inside and “travel” to Baja California to learn about the berrendo (peninsular pronghorn) and collaborative conservation efforts to save them from extinction. The Zoo’s berrendo station transports guests to the El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve Visitor Center, the heart of berrendo conservation in Mexico, co-created by the Peninsular Pronghorn Recovery Program, the Los Angeles Zoo, and Museografica, an award-winning museum design firm in Mexico City.
This event offers a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and celebrate the joy of childhood in a fun and enriching environment. All programming is free with paid daytime admission and for Zoo members. For more information, visit www.lazoo.org/childrensday.
