Membership FAQs
Do I need a reservation to visit the Zoo, even if I’m a member?
No, member reservations are not required at this time. We continue to monitor and adhere to the guidance of public health officials, which may require us to reinstate reservations in the future.
How many cards are included with my membership?
Members at the Individual and Individual Plus levels receive one card per membership. Family level receives two membership cards and Family Deluxe, Contributing Circle, Wildlife Circle, and Conservation Circle levels receive three membership cards. Additional cards can be ordered at a fee of $10 each. Please purchase additional membership cards at the Membership Window at the Zoo entrance or by calling (323) 644-4747.
Why do I have to show a photo ID when I use my membership card to enter the Zoo?
To prevent misuse of membership cards, we require that one adult cardholder present photo ID upon entering the Zoo. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on membership dues for much of our support. We also want to protect our members should their cards be lost or stolen.
If I forget to bring my membership card, can I still visit the Zoo for free?
Yes! Present your valid photo ID at the Zoo’s Membership Booth, where staff will verify your status.
How can I replace a lost/stolen membership card?
A replacement card costs $10. You may order a new one at the membership booth, by phone with a credit card at (323) 644-4747 or mail your request with a personal check to GLAZA, Membership Services, 5333 Zoo Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90027. You will receive your replacement card within three to four weeks. You may visit the Zoo in the meantime by presenting your valid photo ID at the Membership Booth when you arrive at the Zoo.
Can I send my children to the Zoo with their grandparents?
Membership cards are non-transferable, so you would need to buy a membership that allows you to add an extra cardholder (Family Deluxe or higher) or give the grandparents your one-time use guest passes. Your children are always covered under your Family membership, so your membership card will cover free admission for them.
Are guest passes transferable? Do they expire?
Guest passes are transferable. You do not have to accompany your guests to the Zoo and each guest pass is valid for one adult or one child admission. The passes expire when your membership expires.
Will lost/stolen guest passes be replaced?
No. We are unable to replace guest passes, as they are valued at $22 each. Guest passes are printed automatically on the carrier of your Membership card. Please keep your guest passes in a safe place.
What if I want to bring a guest before I receive my guest passes in the mail?
Just stop by the Membership Booth to verify your purchase. Our Membership Booth is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
How can I add a nanny or babysitter to my membership?
Family level members who wish to add a nanny or babysitter to their membership have three options:
- Upgrade your membership to the Family Deluxe level (which allows for three adult cardholders) and add your nanny or babysitter’s name to your record.
- Substitute the nanny or babysitter’s name for one of the adult cardholders on the Family level membership ($20 fee; and you must return the original membership card). Only one name change per year. Restrictions apply.
- Give your guest passes to your nanny or babysitter to use for one-time entrance.
How does the Los Angeles Zoo reciprocal program work?
As a member, you may receive free or discounted admission to more than 170 zoos and aquariums throughout the country. Click here to see a list of participating institutions. Neither the San Diego Zoo/Safari Park nor the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach participates in our reciprocal admission program. Please be aware that the list is subject to change, and many zoos have changed their reciprocal admission policy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to visiting one of the destinations on our reciprocal list, please call to confirm whether they are honoring reciprocal admission or discounts. Remember to carry your Los Angeles Zoo membership card with you when you visit.
How do I make reservations for a member tour?
Unfortunately, due to our current health and safety measures, we are not currently offering docent-led Zoo tours.
When is the best time to visit the Zoo?
The L.A. Zoo is open every day except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (December 25), from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendance increases on the weekends and during special events. The animals tend to be most active in the mornings and when the weather is cooler.
Is my membership tax deductible?
Your contribution, less the fair market value of goods and services received, equals the tax-deductible amount. However, you should consult with a tax adviser or review tax regulations to determine if your contribution is tax-deductible. Please click here to see membership categories and benefits.
Occasionally, GLAZA will make its membership list available to other organizations and entities that share a similar mission. If you would like to be excluded from these mailings, please email us at membership@lazoo.org. GLAZA does not sell or trade telephone numbers and email addresses with other entities.
