Join the L.A. Zoo in celebrating of children, families, and childhood!

The Los Angeles Zoo is thrilled to welcome Angelenos to enjoy special activities and performances honoring the Mexican tradition of Día de los Niños/Children’s Day, which has been observed in Mexico since 1925.  

Everyone can enjoy the Día De Los Niño’s celebration with live music and dance performances; arts and crafts; bilingual storytelling (English and Spanish); education stations; themed food and beverages, and more!

MEMBER PREVIEW: Saturday, May 2; 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.

  • Zoo Grill, mall shop, and stroller and wheelchair rentals open at 8:00 AM
  • Free carousel rides on the Conservation Carousel for members from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
  • Free Mission Safari Maze for members 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
  • LAIR open at 8:00 AM
  • Additional animal feedings
    • Bairds Tapir at 9:30 AM
    • Monkeys: Spider, capuchin, howler at 10:00 AM
  • Aztec Dance Performance at 8:00 AM
  • Folklorico dance performance at 8:30 am
  • Crafts: Jaguar mask and flower headband craft and giveaway for children starting at 8:00 AM
  • Storytime reading by Zoo Magnet Spanish Club students at 9:00 AM
  • Education Station – Plushie Clinic

MUSIC/DANCE PERFORMANCES (Sat and Sun)

  • Aztec dance performance – Danza Azteca Xinantecatl at 10:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.
  • Folklorico dance performance – traditional folklorico dances at 11:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.

ART DEMONSTRATIONS (Sat and Sun) – Rose Garden

  • Self Help Graphics Screen Printing – Live Printing. An exclusive design on posters using natural pigments. Guests can bring in a t-shirt to have screen printed with that design as well.

SECIAL ANIMAL FEEDINGS

  • Saturday, May 2
    • Pronghorn at 11:30 AM
    • Axolotl at 2:30 PM

STORY TIME (Sat and Sun) – Adventure Theater

  • Zoo Magnet Spanish Club Students will read children’s books in Spanish and English at 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M.
  • Books include: Omar el Jaguar and Not a Monster

PLUSHIE CLINIC EDUCATION STATION (Sat and Sun)

  • Visit the “Plushie Clinic” station for a plushie friend health report! Kids can bring their own stuffed companion or borrow one of ours to undergo an imaginary veterinary exam led by one of our friendly volunteers. Once the exam is complete, each plushie patient will be awarded a certificate of good health, making it a delightful way for kids to learn about animal care and responsibility!

CRAFTS (Sat and Sun) – Children’s Zoo

  • Jaguar Mask Craft and flower head bands
  • Gift for Children – It is traditional to give a gift to children on this day!
  • Temporary Tattoo Station
