Guests are Invited to Honor her Legacy by Visiting the Onsite Memorial Garden, Taking “Betty’s L.A. Zoo Tour,” and Donating to the “Betty White Tribute Fund”
The Los Angeles Zoo is celebrating one of its most ardent supporters and longtime friends, Betty White, with a special white rose memorial garden located, fittingly, in Allen Ludden Plaza, named for her late husband. Starting Wednesday, Jan. 12, patrons of the Zoo can leave a special message, memory, or drawing on a card honoring White. The cards will then be displayed on a gold string hung between silk white roses in the memorial garden. In addition to leaving a message. The memorial garden will be up through the end of January.
The Zoo has also created the self-guided “Betty’s L.A. Zoo Tour” honoring White’s contributions to the Los Angeles Zoo. There will be signs at 16 stops throughout the Zoo wherein guests can learn about her connection to that animal and location through a series of pictures and quotes. For even more information and a list of Tour locations, guests can scan a QR code included on each sign. This walking tour will be up through Jan. 31 and pays homage to White’s longtime dedication to animals and the L.A. Zoo. For those who are unable to visit the Zoo during this time, the tour can be experienced at www.lazoo.org/betty-white.
“Betty was an integral part of our Zoo family for over fifty years, and we are so thankful for her generosity, humility, and of course, humor,” states Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association President Tom Jacobson. “After her passing, there has been an outpouring of love for Betty with tributes from around the globe, so we think honoring her at Ludden Plaza, a place very special to her, would serve as the perfect backdrop to this public memorial. We also want to reflect on her life at the L.A. Zoo by sharing some more intimate moments of Betty with our animals and staff as well as her indelible contributions.”
