King VultureWear comfortable shoes! The Zoo is situated on 113 acres in Griffith Park among the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains and there is a lot of walking to be done, so dress appropriately. Comfortable shoes are a must, and in the spring and summer months, bring sun protection such as sunglasses, parasols, hats, and sunscreen.

In the cooler fall and winter months be sure to bring a coat. The Zoo does offer its Safari Shuttle for an additional fee that will bring you to four different locations throughout the Zoo, but it is not a guided tour of exhibits. In order to see the exhibits you will need to do some walking. In addition, for parents of our youngest guests, the Zoo offers single and double strollers for rent near the admissions entrance. And for our disabled patrons, standard wheelchairs and electric conveyances are also available for rent.

Disabled parking spaces are available in the Zoo's visitor parking lot; an official state disabled persons parking permit is required.

Visitors with Service Animals

Western Green ToadConcurrent with ADA regulations the Los Angeles Zoo does allow fully trained service animals into the Zoo. At this time we do not allow service animals in training. A patron wishing to enter the Zoo with a service primate must show proof of a negative TB test for the primate within the last 12 months, and agree to be accompanied by a Zoo staff member or volunteer for the duration of their visit.

If the patron wishes to board their service animal while at the Zoo, clean and safe kennel facilities are available on Zoo grounds for the duration of the patron’s visit. The Los Angeles Zoo does not have facilities to house service primates.

All patrons wishing to enjoy the Zoo with their service animal will be accompanied by Zoo Admissions staff to the Zoo Security Office where they will be requested to complete an admittance release waiver (PDF file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) and provided with a map of areas that are strictly off limits to service animals (aviary, contact yard, large cats, etc.). All service animals must remain on a leash or harness at all times and may not be left unattended.  You are required to clean-up all defecation from your service animal while at the Zoo.

Prior arrangements are encouraged, but not required. Please call for more information. If you require other assistance, please call 323/644-4200.
